Monday of the Twenty-Ninth Week in Ordinary Time

What does the Christian journey look like after baptism? Receiving Grace is the beginning of a lifelong transformation. It is a transformation that God initiates, but one that we must consent to. Am I a disciple of Jesus Christ? What does that mean? What does that look like? How do I cooperate with grace?

Our Lady of the Rosary

Our Lady of the Rosary is the title finally given to Our Lady of Victories. The complete and decisive victory over the Ottoman Empire was attributed to the intercession of Mary and especially through the prayers of the Rosary. The Rosary is a prayer that has been used by Christians since the time of St. Dominic who – legend has it – received the Rosary from Mary herself.

The appeal of the prayer of the Rosary could be attributed to many things: miracles associated with the recitation of the Rosary, the scriptural and Christocentric nature of the Hail Mary and Our Father prayers, the repetition that calls to mind the recitation of the 150 Psalms. This prayer is used to meditate on the mysteries of Christ’s life, His Passion, death, and Resurrection. It can also be used in a more contemplative way by allowing the mind and heart to cling to the mysteries of our faith with love and the help of the Blessed Virgin. read more

The one who is carried away after a long time is worthy of blame, but the one who falls at the first attack and in the initial skirmish has furnished an example of the greatest weakness. And with this he charges them also, saying “What is this, that those who deceive you do not even need time, but the first assault suffices to rout and capture you?” … At the same time he shows in what great and high estimation he holds them. Reading 1 Rv 14:1-3, 4b-5 I, John, looked and there was the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. I heard a sound from heaven like the sound of rushing water or a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. They were singing what seemed to be a new hymn before the throne, before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn this hymn except the hundred and forty-four thousand who had been ransomed from the earth. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They have been ransomed as the first fruits of the human race for God and the Lamb. On their lips no deceit has been found; they are unblemished. Responsorial Psalm Ps 24:1bc-2, 3-4ab, 5-6 R. (see 6) Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face. The LORD’s are the earth and its fullness; the world and those who dwell in it.
